Pura X View price: what you actually pay

The wide screen: why 6.39 inches is bigger than it sounds

This is the point of the phone, and the headline number is misleading on purpose.

A 6.39-inch diagonal sounds small next to the 6.8 and 6.9-inch panels on most flagships. But diagonals only compare fairly when the shape is the same, and the Pura X View is wider rather than taller. Huawei states the display area is 114.27 square centimetres — larger than many conventional 6.9-inch phones.

What that means in practice: video fills the screen instead of leaving black bars, documents and web pages show more per line, and split-screen actually has room for two usable panes. It is the shape of a folded-open foldable, without the hinge, the crease or the price.

The panel itself is 2232 × 1320 at 406 PPI, 120Hz, with 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, 1.07 billion colours and P3 gamut, behind Kunlun Glass. The body measures 144.1 × 87.0 × 6.68mm — short and wide rather than tall and narrow, which is a genuinely different thing to hold.

7000mAh in a 6.68mm body

The other difficult piece of engineering here is the battery. 7000mAh is a large cell, and phones carrying that much are usually thick. The Pura X View is 6.68mm thick and weighs 201g, which is thinner than most flagships with considerably smaller batteries.

Charging is 66W wired — around 0.9 hours to full in Huawei's testing — or 50W wireless, and it charges other devices back at 5W by cable or wirelessly. Note that the fastest speeds need Huawei's matching charging kit.

HarmonyOS 7 and how apps work

This is the part to understand before ordering. The Pura X View runs HarmonyOS 7.0, Huawei's own operating system. It is not Android, and it does not include Google Mobile Services or the Google Play Store.

Apps come from Huawei AppGallery instead, which carries a large and growing catalogue, and Huawei supplies its own equivalents for the essentials — Petal Maps for navigation, Huawei Browser, Huawei Cloud, and so on. Anything that runs in a browser works normally. The system, menus and keyboard support English. HarmonyOS has also been tuned specifically for this wider screen, with multitasking and content layouts built around the extra horizontal space, which is a large part of why the format works at all.

So the question is simply what you use daily. If you live in AppGallery, web apps and Huawei's own services, this is a phone shaped like nothing else on the market. If several Google apps are central to your routine, that is worth weighing up first.
