MateBook Fold Ultimate Design price: what you actually pay

Three configurations are available, and unlike most laptops the memory scales with the storage:

• 24GB + 512GB — the entry configuration
• 24GB + 1TB — same memory, double the storage
• 32GB + 2TB — the top configuration, with more memory for heavy multi-window work on the 18-inch canvas

All three run the same Kirin X90 Plus, the same 18-inch foldable display and the same battery, and importantly all of them include the M-Pen 3 stylus and the Glide Keyboard — on the previous generation the keyboard was a separate purchase, so that is a real change in what you get for the money. What makes it different: one screen, three ways to work

There is no keyboard half. The entire machine is display, which means you can use it three ways:

• Fully open as an 18-inch screen — a genuinely large canvas for multi-window work, drawing, reading or film, at 3296 × 2472 and 4:3
• Half-folded like a laptop — the lower half becomes an on-screen keyboard, or you drop the magnetic Glide Keyboard on top of it for real key travel
• Closed — a 13-inch, 14.9mm package that goes in a bag like any ultrabook

The display is dual-layer OLED behind UTG ultra-thin glass, running 700 nits typical and 1600 nits peak with a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio in HDR, 1.07 billion colours, a 92% screen-to-body ratio and 10-point touch. It carries TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 3.0 certification, which matters on a screen you will be looking at up close for hours.

The stylus and keyboard are included

This generation adds M-Pen 3 stylus support, and Huawei includes the pen in the box along with a spare tip, tip clip and a sleeve. On an 18-inch touch canvas that changes what the machine is for — annotation, sketching and handwritten notes become first-class rather than an afterthought, and Huawei's own Notes and drawing apps are built around it.

The Glide Keyboard is also included, along with a premium storage bag, the 140W adapter and a cleaning cloth. It is a complete package out of the box, which is worth factoring in when comparing prices against machines where the keyboard and pen are extras.

It runs HarmonyOS, not Windows

This is the most important thing to understand before ordering. The MateBook Fold runs HarmonyOS 6.1, Huawei's own operating system. It is not Windows and it is not macOS, so Windows software does not install on it, and there is no Google Play Store.

What you get instead is a growing catalogue of HarmonyOS applications, Huawei's own suite — Notes, Gallery, Files, Calendar, cloud storage, the AppGallery — and anything that runs in a web browser. Interface and keyboard support English. The system is genuinely well matched to this hardware: the folding, dual-screen and multi-window behaviour works because HarmonyOS was built for it, and features like monitor mode, cross-device clipboard, keyboard and mouse sharing and screen mirroring with Huawei phones and tablets are native.

So the question is what your daily software looks like. If you work in a browser, in Huawei's ecosystem, or you want it primarily as a large-screen device for reading, drawing, media and multi-window work, it is superb and there is nothing else like it. If a specific Windows application is essential to your job, this is not the machine for that.
