All four share the same Kirin X90 Plus, the same 970g body and the same 70Wh battery. The Soft Light editions swap the glossy panel for a matte one, which is worth having if you work under overhead lighting or near windows — and on this machine the standard panel already has an anti-reflective coating, so the Soft Light version takes that further. 970 grams with a 70Wh battery

The balance here is what makes this machine interesting. Most 14-inch laptops sit between 1.2 and 1.6kg; the MateBook Pro is 970g at 13.5mm thick. What it does not do is achieve that by cutting the battery — there is a 70Wh cell inside, which is a full-size flagship battery, and Huawei quotes a 40W performance release for the Kirin X90 Plus, so it is not throttled down to fit the chassis either.

Charging is handled by a 140W SuperCharge adapter included in the box — the same class of charger Huawei ships with its foldable PC — and the laptop itself can push up to 66W back out of its right-hand USB-C port to charge a phone or tablet.

The display

The 14.2-inch panel is an OLED touchscreen with an anti-reflective coating, running 3120 × 2080 at 264 PPI in a 3:2 aspect ratio — noticeably more vertical space for documents and code than a 16:9 screen. Contrast is quoted at 1,000,000:1, brightness at 600 nits typical and 1000 nits peak, with a 178° viewing angle, a 93% screen-to-body ratio and TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 3.0 certification.

The anti-reflective treatment is the detail worth calling out. OLED panels are usually glossy, which looks superb indoors and awkward in bright rooms; the coating here is aimed at that, and the Soft Light editions go further with a matte finish.

It runs HarmonyOS, not Windows

This is the most important thing to understand before ordering. The MateBook Pro runs HarmonyOS, Huawei's own operating system. It is not Windows and it is not macOS, so Windows software does not install on it, and there is no Google Play Store.

What you get instead is a growing catalogue of HarmonyOS applications from Huawei's AppGallery, Huawei's own suite — Notes, Files, Gallery, Calendar, cloud storage, an AI assistant with research and search tools — and anything that runs in a web browser. Interface and keyboard support English. HarmonyOS is efficient on Kirin silicon, which is a large part of how Huawei fits a 70Wh battery and a 40W chip into 970g, and it connects natively with Huawei phones and tablets for cross-device clipboard, keyboard and mouse sharing, file transfer and screen mirroring.

So the question is what your daily software looks like. If you work in a browser, in Huawei's ecosystem, or you want an unusually light machine with a proper battery for travel and long days, it is a compelling piece of hardware. If a specific Windows application is essential to your job, this is not the machine for that.
